Wall art made with vintage silk kimono.  

This fabric panel depicts traditional Japanese villages with flowing water under the bridge and farmhouses with thatched roofs. Plants like plum, Japanese maples, iris, pine and chrysanthemum are painted on this kimono and are used as auspicious symbols. These plants add colours to this landscape and accentuate the beauty of the tranquil village life. The dying technique used for this kimono is called "Edo Komon". Intricate patterns are curved by hands on fortified washi paper and this is used as a paper stencil and printed on fabrics with resist paste. The colouring and resists paste are both made from rice and its bran. This fabric is truly a piece of art. This fabric is from 1950s. Vintage kimono fabrics might have some blemishes, however we try to use the best preserved part.
